New Caledonia packs an unusual variety of landscapes into a compact corner of the South Pacific: mountain ridges, nickel mines, cattle country, tropical valleys, coral lagoons, remote islands, and small airfields. Driftline brings those places together into a curated region built specifically for exploration in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
The region
Grande Terre is divided by a central mountain chain, with broad drier plains along much of the west coast, wetter tropical terrain to the east, and the distinctive red-earth landscapes of the far south. Offshore, the Loyalty Islands and smaller islands create an entirely different flying environment.
Much of New Caledonia is surrounded by an immense reef and lagoon system, parts of which are UNESCO World Heritage listed. From the cockpit, reefs, channels, islands, beaches, and shallow turquoise water become some of the region’s most recognizable features.
New Caledonia’s landscape also tells a human story. Kanak communities, colonial history, cattle ranching, nickel mining, industrial sites, and remote settlements all leave visible traces that make flights more meaningful than simply moving between airports.
